Wellesbourne Bowls Club is one of the longest established bowls clubs in Warwickshire. It has excellent bowling and clubhouse facilities. The green has 6 rinks and is very well-maintained. The clubhouse has a bar and full kitchen facilities, which is available to hire for events, occasions, functions and meetings.
Our facilities cater for seasoned bowlers, those new to the sport and those who just want to socialise and spectate. We have several membership options and welcome new members of all ages, bowling abilities and physical abilities.
We hold competitions and play in a number of local leagues. There is also a programme of friendly, social games and club nights.
The Club was founded in 1925 and initially set up an unfenced three rink green close to the boundary of the cricket pitch at the time. The bowls club moved to its present site in 1966 and a pavilion was added in 1971, both being subject to expansion at later dates.
The 14th of September 2024 was a very sad day for the Club as it saw the sudden and unexpected passing of John McKenzie, aka "Mr Wellesbourne Bowls". John had been the Club's Treasurer for 40 years and was also the Chairman, Secretary and a multitude of other roles. John and his wife Rena, doublehandedly ran most aspects of the Club and kept it financially self-sufficient. John is a hard act to follow.
Centenary celebrations are always an exciting time for bowls clubs and their members, and Wellesbourne will be the latest addition to the 100 club in 2025. We are very much looking forward to a busy calendar of events.
Our clubhouse can accommodate small functions and events. It has been used for birthday parties, receptions and wakes. It is also a great place for community and activity groups.
There are full kitchen facilities, a licensed bar, toilets, car parking and facilities for disabled visitors.
