Wellesbourne competes in the Kineton District League alongside 14 other local clubs. Matches take place on 3 rinks where 4 players from each club (i.e. 12 per club) bowl 2 bowls each. Each players has a specific role, those being lead, 2nd, 3rd and skip. These matches usually take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with an occasional Saturday. For further information, including results and the league table, see the KDL website. We are aiming to do better in 2025!
Wellesbourne also competes in the Pickering League which is made up of local clubs split into 3 leagues. In 2025, Wellesbourne will play in Division 3. Matches take place on 3 rinks where 3 players from each club (i.e. 9 per club) bowl 3 bowls each. Each player has a specific role - lead, 2nd and skip. These matches take place on a Wednesday afternoon. At present, the Pickering League does not have an online presence.
This is played on a Friday evening over 10 weeks. A number of local clubs, including Wellesbourne, take it in turn to host the matches.
These are played against local and touring teams. They are an excellent opportunity for newer bowlers to get a taste of competition in a relaxed environment.
We run a number of internal club competitions during the season which all members can participate in. They culminate in a Finals Weekend in September.
Friday night is club night when members (and friends/family) can just turn up and play and get to know each other in a relaxed & non-competitive situation. The bar is also open!
National and Warwickshire county organisations run an extensive programme of competitions which club members can enter if they wish. We have a few members who play for the County.
