Wellesbourne Bowls Club is one of the longest established bowls clubs in Warwickshire. It has excellent bowling and clubhouse facilities. The green is well-maintained and the clubhouse has a bar and full kitchen facilities, which is available to hire for events, occasions, functions and meetings.
Our facilities cater for seasoned bowlers, those new to the sport and those who just want to socialise and spectate. We have several membership options.
We hold competitions and play in a number of local leagues. We are always on the look out for new and experienced players to join our league teams.
One of the Club's strengths is that there is a great sense of community around the place. The Club itself is also an integral part of the wider Wellesbourne community.
Please have a poke around this website and do get in touch - or better still, pop along. There is someone about most days between April and September - and definitely from 6pm on a Friday which is social and roll-up night.
If you are interested in what we offer, take a look at the 'Join Us' page.
The Club was founded in 1925 and initially set up an unfenced three rink green close to the boundary of the cricket pitch at the time. The bowls club moved to its present site in 1966 and a pavilion was added in 1971, both being subject to expansion at later dates.
The 14th of September 2024 was a very sad day for the Club as it saw the sudden and unexpected passing of John McKenzie, aka "Mr Wellesbourne Bowls". John had been the Club's Treasurer for 40 years and was also the Chairman, Secretary and a multitude of other roles. John and his wife Rena, doublehandedly ran most aspects of the Club and kept it financially self-sufficient. John will be a hard act to follow.
Read on for a more in-depth dive into the history of the Club and the contribution made by John.
Centenary celebrations are always an exciting time for bowls clubs and their members, and Wellesbourne will be the latest addition to the 100 club in 2025. We are very much looking forward to a busy calendar of events.
A highlight will be the match against a representative team from Bowls England on Wednesday, 2 July 2025 - we better start practicing now!.
Our clubhouse can accommodate small functions and events. It has been used for birthday parties, receptions and wakes. It is also a great place for community and activity groups.
There are full kitchen facilities, a licensed bar, toilets and car parking. If you would be interested in hiring out the our clubhouse, find out more by clicking below and get in contact.
